On October 10, 2006, my girlfriend's daughter Sheryl was fired from her job at Riverside Management in Sacramento based on the word of another mother and daughter who work there, Pamela and her daughter, Jackie. Up until being knifed in the back, Sheryl had assumed Jackie was her friend, after all, they talked daily and Sheryl had taken Jackie out for a wonderful dinner on her birthday.

Pamela was hired to bring in more associations for Riverside Management. To date, she's brought in a big fat ZERO new accounts. When she was hired, she bragged to the other employees that no one had negotiated a better deal than she had at work. We've all known blowhards like this: people who's mouths exceed their ability. The way I hear it from multiple sources is that she's always got to top the last story she hears. I've never met this woman, yet I know her because I know her type. They leave a trail of arrogant slime wherever they go. Pamela told several coworkers that she was going to get another coworker, Becky, fired. She thinks Becky is physically the wrong image to represent the company at the front desk. Pamela got off on the wrong foot in the office when she was first hired by going in the freezer in the kitchen and eating one of Becky's ice cream bars without her permission. When Becky talked to a coworker about it, Pamela overheard her and confronted her and chewed her out for talking behind her back. She even went to the boss, Celeste, about it. As usual, instead of Celeste saying, "Pamela, what the hell were you doing eating her stuff without permission?", she hung Becky out to dry. Now how is she going to steal an ice cream and then get mad when someone mentions it to someone else?

Firing Sheryl was dumb. She busted her butt for that company. She got mailers out in record time. She was organized and efficient. The kicker is that everyone in the office knows Sheryl is a hard worker. Even Celeste, who inexplicably fired her, acknowledged that she's a hard worker, offered to give her a glowing letter of recommendation and just gave her a raise two weeks earlier. It makes no sense. What she was fired for was apparently gossiping. (As if the entire office doesn't gossip. I don't mean to be a sexist pig but it's an office of 10 or so women and one man. There's gossip every day.) Sheryl denies saying what they said she said. Celeste was tired of the "drama". This from a woman who let her problems with her drug addicted niece consume the office when she had the disturbed 20 year old working there. Her niece would huff office supplies on the job!

I hate to see someone get a raw deal. i hate unfairness. And I know there's something else underlying this firing. Celeste doesn't operate this way. Something else is up. If I were other employees of Riverside I'd be real nervous.

I used to have respect for that woman.
