Debates over, folks
So I'm addressing the illegal immigration "debate" this week. It's not really a debate. It's a done deal. The government will do nothing meaningful to stop the flow of illegals into this country.
I hate that you can't even talk about this issue without being labeled a racist. And I resent it because I think the term is misused and done intentionally to stifle debate. You disagree with what Lou Dobbs is saying? Then he's a racist.
What is wrong with saying that the US has the right to defend it's borders like every other country in the world? What would happen to you if you tried to violate China's borders? If you illegally enter Mexico, it's a FELONY. What's wrong with saying that the American taxpayer shouldn't have to foot the bill for education, health care and other services for people who are here illegally? How is that racist?
In any discussion of illegal immigration, there's always the point made that most of the people coming here are just looking for work and they're honest, hardworking people. Good for them. It's still not sustainable to run a country this way. If I break into your home, clean it, redecorate it and then eat all the food in your fridge and set up a bed in your spare bedroom, all uninvited, I'm still in the wrong.
"But if we stop illegal immigration, we'll pay $5 for a head of lettuce." Look around you. Americans are fat as hell. No one is eating vegetables anyway. LOL But seriously, if that's what lettuce will cost to pay a decent wage for Americans to pick it, then that's what it will cost. Or we'll have a guest worker program.
But you know what? All of this doesn't matter. It doesn't matter at all. You know why? The debate is over.
