Give Lori Wilson a look for Suisun City Council

How many times have you been looking for something and you call someone over to help you and they find what you're looking for almost instantly? Sometimes it pays to have a fresh pair of eyes look at a given situation. After looking into the Suisun City Council race, I think it could pay off for Suisun to invest in a fresh pair of eyes in the form of Lori Wilson. Wilson is the only challenger to the two seats currently held by incumbents Sam Derting and Mike Segala.
Lori Wilson is a wife and mother to two teenagers, the oldest of which is going into the U.S. Marines Corps the day before the election. Brining the perspective of a young mother to the council will be a valuable addition. She can speak to issues facing young families in Suisun.
Beyond that, Wilson, a financial analyst, brings intellectual heft and know-how to the Council. She graduated from CSU, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accountancy. According to her bio, she interned at Travis AFB where she was introduced to government accounting and budgeting, worked for Solano County as an auditor and she's worked other accounting jobs.
Lori Wilson is Vice Chair on the Suisun City Parks & Recreation Commission. And as the Suisun City Community Service Foundation President she was instrumental in helping to save Suisun's Fourth of July event. It impressed me that she spoke out against using general fund money to put on the event calling it unwise. She's been working to put on the Christmas on the Waterfront event and restore Jazz Nights and other events back to the Suisun City calendar. She's been working with volunteers to do this and believes government shouldn't have been doing these things in the first place.
This is a big deal because voters need to know how an official is going to handle their money. Lori Wilson has already demonstrated that she's cautious with the public's wallet. She's helped raise money in the private sector. She's helped raise money for charity. This is someone you don't have to worry about going on junkets or mishandling public funds.
There's something to be said about someone running for office powered by their passionate belief in what they can bring to the table as opposed to trashing their opponent. We've gotten used to cynicism, negativity and last minute hit pieces being mailed out in local campaigns. You're not going to see any of that out of Lori Wilson's campaign.
She told me recently that it's a conscious choice to run a positive campaign. It helps that it fits with her personality, as she believes everyone is a friend until they prove otherwise.
Suisun voters can go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2nhB6Zuzv8 to watch an hour long interview with Lori Wilson at Glimpses Coffeehouse.
Election seasons are stressful times. With a tight, contentious presidential race, statewide ballot measures, political ads and mailers, many voters just want it to be over with. Given that backdrop it's not uncommon for voters to go to their polling place and simply vote for incumbents by rote. If you're a Suisun voter, I'm asking you to stop and take a good look at adding a passionate fresh new voice to the Suisun City Council in Lori Wilson. Peace.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: I had originally intended this to run in my column but I was informed that it was against the paper's policy. So I'm running it here on my personal blog because I think it's important. I think Suisun voters should take a serious look at Lori Wilson this November.
